Life groups are the bread-and-butter of our church. These weekly meetings are a way for adults to build friendships and disciple-making relationships with one another. Tired of going to church and feeling like nobody knows your name, or notices if you were gone? Our solution: Join a Life Group!

We're not just talking about the weather or latest celebrity gossip, but we're talking about Jesus - what He's doing in our lives and what He's done for us. While each group has a different personality to it, here are some common threads that run through all groups:

  • Mix of People
Our groups are made up people in varying life stages. We aren't necessarily seperated by age or marital status, but we encourage a mix of people to foster community, encourage personal growth and build intergenerational relationships.

  • Leaders
Each life group has a leader, or leaders, who feel called to head up a life group. Life group leaders shepherd the group in guiding, serving, caring for and developing their groups. They help train up future leaders and find ways to connect their groups to the community surrounding them. They facilitate the studies, meetings and prayer requests. They help make sure the group's needs are being met.

  • Neighbors
In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus explains that when you serve the people around you, you are serving your neighbors. In our life groups, we don't only find ways to serve one another's needs, but our surrounding community's as well. We care for each other by celebrating life events, planning parties and/or showers, providing meals in hard times, pitching in during financial stress, and much more. We also look for ways to care for people outside of our groups, as each group has a unique way of being missional to their community.

  • Disciples
We take life groups one step further at The Avenue and encourage disciple-making among members. We see a disciple as someone who is a transformed follower of Christ who daily is growing to abide in, obey, live for, and speak of Christ's name. There are several ways to become a disciple at The Avenue including membership, First Mondays, and joining (or starting) a grassroots discipleship group with people in your life group.

  • Meetings
The meeting structure varies between group and depends on the leadership style. All life groups at The Avenue meet weekly, and in someone's home. For more specifics, email us to find a life group near you.

  • Children
Each life group decides what approach to take with child care during meetings. Some groups have hired babysitters every week, and others switch off with sitters every other week. Have kids? We'll work with you to find a group that fits you and your kids' needs.
