So you're hoping to get some idea on what life is like here at the Avenue. Here are a few basics...
- Atmosphere
We've designed our church to feel comfortable and welcoming. That's why we wear jeans (or occasionally khaki cargo pants) and have electric guitars on the stage. We have a day once every month where we all eat together, and then we break into smaller groups every week and eat together again. We appreciate the visual arts and coming up with unique ways to serve our community. We're flexible and static, meaning we try to change things up each week but will always teach the Bible and how it transforms lives and impacts our culture. - Music
We don't have the head-banging group or total Emo sound, but we are using more than an organ and piano in our worship styles. We have weeks of acoustic sets mixed with weeks of a full worship band. We sing old songs, new songs, and original songs. Think of it like a sampler platter, a bit of everything without commitment. - Mission
We talk about being "missional" a lot. Basically what that means is that we're not about ourselves. Our goal is not to be the biggest or richest church. Our goal is to leave church each week, go into our workplaces, homes, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. and make relationships with people. We're not about getting people inside of our church as much as we are about getting Christ outside of it. At The Avenue, we're teaching people about Jesus, how he can transform your life, and how to take his message into your community. - People
We're an intergenerational group which means people of all ages. This creates a fun mix when several twenty-somethings are getting secret recipes from older moms, or the thirties and forties are finding comfort in one another as they realize they had their kids around the same time. We have people coming from all kinds of lifestyles and walks life like: young professionals; college students; newlyweds; new parents; new grandparents; empty nesters; thirty-somethings; tattoo enthusiasts; retirees; drag racers; homeschoolers; school teachers; high schoolers; professional chefs; artists; tons of kids; and many, many more! We're a big mix of people who love Jesus and are carrying his message out to the people around us. - Kiddos
We're all about family ministry here at The Avenue. Our philosophy is that it takes a village to raise a child. We believe in that so much that we devote our Sunday mornings to two things - worship service and Avenue Kids. It’s a combined effort to raise up the next generation, so we all do our part in helping with the children. Some may teach the classes and lead craft time while others wash toys, get snacks ready or write notes to the kids during the week. We value our kids and believe that when we raise them in the ways of Jesus, they will follow him when they're older. As for the adults, we grow together during the week through our life groups.
